Now we’re ready to tackle our first mission. Check out the image below for a look at some of the items out of the main box. City events take place within Gloomhaven while road events take place, you guessed out, on the road outside of Gloomhaven. Items range from armor to weapons to healing potions to shields.įinally, set up the two event decks (city events and road events), 30 cards per deck (note that there more than 30 cards in each deck, but this is how you begin the game). Items come in different flavors: one time use in a scenario, items that can be refreshed after a long rest (to be discussed later) and some just provide passive stats. The scenario book will also suggest which items your character will begin with, but you can choose any starting items available in the market. Next you’ll want to consult the scenario book on how to set up your scenario, what the objectives are, what rewards you’ll earn if you successfully complete said objectives. To begin, you’ll choose one of 6 available character classes (or two, if you’re playing solo): There are no rules for a single character. Note that although you can play by yourself (solo), you must play 2 characters. Designed for 1-4 players cooperatively ages 12 and up, a game session of Gloomhaven lasts between 1 to 2 hours. As decisions are made, your mercenary’s story will progress accordingly, so choose your path carefully! One game session barely scratches the Gloomhaven universe as this “choose your own adventure” board game requires many play-throughs to fully experience this content rich game. The next set of poster pre-orders are going up this weekend for you to consider Artist Series #3. The Takenoko poster is beautiful, as is the wonderful Seven Wonders design which you could legitimately see popping up in an olden day travel agents. The second set from last year pushed things even more. They have collected together some amazing pieces, especially for the likes of Mysterium and Blood Rage as you'll see above. Their previous designs, created by a range of different artists were done in a style which echoed the old travel posters of the early 20th Century. So, when BGG brought together their Artist Series a couple of years ago I was very drawn to the posters they got a group of guest artists to create for some well-loved games. I also love artwork that is to do with board games.
